Context
Challenge
Vision
AmplifiedAg provides a holistic solution to produce and distribute safe food anywhere in the world.
Their ask
"Redesign the enclosure for our fertigation system
for public sales
opportunities in 2022"
They do...
Opportunity
How might we re-design and improve the fertigation system usability?
Current product

No indication of status
The current location puts at risk the food safety
The form is missing brand language

The Installer
Cables are in risk of damage and both hands are busy difficulting the task
Difficult to access location

The Maintenace
Due to the location the user has a very strained position
The user needs to unscrew 6 screws in order to do any maintenance.
The user has to hold the lid in a strained position while executing its task.
Cables are at risk and one both hands are busy making the task harder
Wasted space

Sensors are easily confused
Ideation
What did I take into account?
Use of space for a better location
Interaction with the interface: Lid opening, sensors, and pumps

Prototyping

50% scale model
The hinge wasn't strong
The clasp was using too much material
The ethernet and power holes had to be different

Full scale model
Fits in the desired location
All the mechanisms fit correctly
The hinge and the clasp need more work

The new enclosure
Less space, more usability
Reduced size

Hinge lid
That eliminates the risk of cable damage
and streamlines the tasks of the user

Rubber clasp for easy access
Labels to avoid sensor confusion

100% of the space is used
Reducing material waste
Holes to facilitate pull out when maintenance is needed
Blue - hearth beat
Green - working correctly
Red - working incorrectly

User-friendly design that promotes, brand aesthetic and the importance of the product itself
This was a project full of learnings. If I could go back I would have reached out to injection molding specialists and mechanical engineers faster in the process to help me evaluate other options for the clasp. I would have also liked to do more user testing with the full-scale prototype.
What would I improve?
