PERSONAL PROJECT
5 weeks

Overview

During quarantine, my family and I started a vegetable garden it required a lot of attention, plus we didn’t find any tool that could help us weed efficiently.

Even though Milwaukee is not focused on gardening tools, I think this project aligns with their mission: “We’re a manufacturer of solutions […] and we will not stop disruptively innovating to make you more productive”, and that’s exactly what I wanted to achieve with this product.

The problem

User observation

"The most frequent thing we have to do while gardening is weeding and there is no tool that actually pulls the weed"

The user needs a tool that:

Pull weeds out of the soil

is ergonomic

Durable

Efficient

Weeder analysis
How might we improve functionality?

  • Different curvatures to approach the task differently

  • V cut in the tip that is supposed to grad the weed

AREAS OF DISCONFORT.jpg

Weak grip/ slips easily

Strained wrist

Areas of discomfort while use

  • What if the handle is thicker for better finger support?

  • What if the handle is perpendicular to the blade so the movement is from the shoulder and not from the wrist?

  • What if the grip is textured to avoid slipping?

Grip improvement

With some extra time, I would have user-tested the handle I decided to go with and explored different ways to attach it to the blade. Also, I would like to explore the storage of this item and if I could maybe innovate with it.

What would I improve?
